Dietrich School Diversity Postdoctoral Fellowship: Religions of Africa and the African Diaspora

The University of Pittsburgh’s Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Religious Studies, beginning August 1, 2019.

The post-doctoral fellow will teach one course per term, engage in research, and contribute to the intellectual life of the Department. We welcome any relevant courses but are especially interested in courses on topics such as religion and colonialism, race and religion, spiritualist movements, indigenous African religions, African-American religion, or religions of the Caribbean.

Fellows will be able to take advantage of the resources of, and develop connections with, other centers and programs relevant to their areas of scholarship and teaching at Pitt, such as the Department of Africana Studies, University Center for International Studies (which includes an African Studies Program and a Latin American Studies Center), and interdisciplinary programs and centers in the Dietrich School (including the Humanities Center, the World History Center, and programs in Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies, Cultural Studies, Urban Studies, etc.).

Recognizing the crucial benefits that diversity brings to our intellectual vitality, the University of Pittsburgh has embarked on significant initiatives to diversify its faculty, student body, and curriculum. We encourage applications from creative and dedicated scholars, teachers, and mentors eager to contribute to this mission.

Applicants must have satisfactorily completed all requirements for the Ph.D. degree, including any oral defense, by March 1, 2019. Individuals who completed all such requirements before January 1, 2017 are ineligible. For more information about the fellowship program and to apply, click here.
